Newcastle have Yves Bissouma as their main midfield target but would have to pay £50million to sign the Brighton star, according to reports. The Toon are looking at reinforcements for this month as they look to stay in the Premier League. And Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele is another name under consideration.
Newcastle boosted their hopes of staying in the top flight with a narrow 1-0 win over Leeds on Saturday.
Jonjo Shelvey was the hero, with the Wales international’s goal giving his team all three precious points.
Newcastle remain in a big fight to stay in the Premier League, however, with the Toon battling with the likes of Burnley, Watford, Norwich and Everton to beat the drop.
They’ve already signed Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood this month.
And the Daily Mail say Newcastle would also love to sign Bissouma from Brighton, with the midfielder their No 1 target.
However, Brighton supposedly want a £50m fee for their prized asset.

And Bissouma’s preference would be to join one of the Premier League top six clubs, with Arsenal and Tottenham both linked with the Mali international.
Newcastle’s board have also performed a U-turn when it comes to signing Dembele from Barcelona.
The France international’s contract at the Nou Camp expires at the end of the season, having been at the club since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
Newcastle apparently previously considered a move for Dembele to be a ‘wasted exercise’.
Yet the 2018 World Cup winner has now come under consideration, especially with Barcelona hoping to get him off the books this month.
Both Dembele and Bissouma aren’t Newcastle’s only transfer targets, however.

They’re also eyeing Jesse Lingard and Dele Alli, whose futures at Manchester United and Tottenham respectively are uncertain.
Lingard will be a free agent come the summer and Newcastle remain hopeful of signing him on loan.
United would prefer to keep him, however, with Ralf Rangnick wanting all of his best players as he looks to steer his team in the Premier League top four.
Tottenham are open to letting Alli go, though.
The England international missed Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, with Antonio Conte not even naming him in the squad.
So it’ll be interesting to see who Newcastle are able to bring in as the clock ticks down.
Meanwhile, speaking recently to Express Sport, Jose Enrique insisted he was ‘very happy’ with the work done by Howe at the club so far.
“I think he’s managed very very well,” Enrique said.
“Obviously the situation he came in, it was very bad. The situation that was on the table it was difficult.
“I think they have it easier now they can sign players, they are not too far away.
“But obviously I believe he was the right choice. They went for Emery, a manager who has won trophies so I understand.
“I like the way they went for Eddie, an English manager who knows the league a lot, he was a legend at Bournemouth because of what he did at the club.
“And I believe he’s the right manager for the players they [Newcastle] have at the moment because he’s a very good manager.
“And I like the way they’re approaching players as well, the type of players they’ve been going for as well.
“I’m very happy with the situation. I’m very happy for Eddie as well.”
