Dele Alli: John Cross discusses Jose Mourinho's 'tough love'
Newcastle United and Everton are reportedly considering a move for Dele Alli in the January transfer window. The England international has not started a league game for Tottenham Hotspur since the opening game of the 2020/21 campaign, when he was hauled off at half time in the 1-0 defeat to Everton.
Paris Saint-Germain had three loan offers for the 24-year-old rejected in the summer and it is unclear yet whether they will be coming back in for the midfielder.
Another Ligue 1 side, Monaco, were also said to have considered Alli, with Spurs’ former chief scout Paul Mitchell now working there as sporting director.
But The Telegraph have this week linked the ex-MK Dons man with a potential loan move to Newcastle United and Everton.
The Magpies have already been a sanctuary for one unhappy Spurs player after a falling out with Jose Mourinho in recent times, with Danny Rose having spent the second half of last season on loan at St James’ Park.

The Telegraph claim Tottenham are yet to inform Alli of their plans for him in January and he was also said to have been left in the dark around his absence from the squad at the weekend, when Alli was dropped from the 20-man match day squad for the 2-0 defeat at home to Leicester City.
Despite the increase to nine substitutes and Alli being fit, he was left out of the squad in favour of the returning Gareth Bale, Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura, Harry Winks and Carlos Vinicius.
Alli has been limited to just three substitute outings in the Premier League since the opening day, totalling just 29 minutes.
It has not been much better for him in cup competitions either, sitting out the EFL Cup tie with Chelsea and only starting three of their eight Europa League matches, coming on in another trio of ties.

Former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton believes Mourinho is ‘testing’ Alli and has not ruled out the midfielder returning to the fold in the future.
Hutton told Football Insider: “Mourinho is testing him. He is certainly testing his mentality and his mental strength.
“When he has been given an opportunity he has played well. He has taken his chances and that is all he can do.
“It is an extremely difficult position for Dele Alli because he is being left of the squad completely.
“Does he have a future under Mourinho? If this is Jose testing him, he is doing very well.”
