Ole Gunnar Solskjaer criticises Bruno Fernandes after MOTM display for Man Utd

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised Bruno Fernandes’ performance in Manchester United’s win over Everton, though admits the midfielder sometimes leaves him ‘frustrated’ with his positioning.

The Portugal international had yet another influential match, dragging his side back from a goal down at Goodison Park with two quick-fire goals to set United on their way towards an important three points.

His first goal was a brilliant header and his second a cross that narrowly missed Marcus Rashford’s head but snuck it at the far post, while he added a stoppage-time assist for Edinson Cavani to wrap up the 3-1 victory.

While Solskjaer was delighted with most aspects of Fernandes’ display against Everton, he did highlight his tendency to get caught out of position when trying to do too much to help the team.

Asked about the midfielder’s display, Solskjaer told MUTV: ‘Great performance. Of course leading the boys, there’s desire and determination. He’s everywhere on the pitch!

‘Sometimes that frustrates me, because sometimes there’s passes being played where he should have been and he’s not there.

‘But you know when you’ve got someone who drives them on like this, of course you’re very happy.’

United skipper Harry Maguire was full of praise for Fernandes’ performance and says it speaks volumes about his character after he was criticised in midweek against Istanbul Basaksehir.

The centre-back told MUTV: ‘Bruno was excellent today. He came under a little bit of stick on Wednesday night.

‘But he’s a big character, he’s a big leader, and he’s reacted brilliantly.

‘And that’s only what he does. He does his talking on the pitch and I’m delighted that he’s got a couple of goals – or whatever you want to call it, a goal and an assist. But he was brilliant out there and helped us get the victory.’
