The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, has taken a bizarre swipe at Manchester United captain Harry Maguire and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after defending his leadership of the country.
Former cricket player Khan has been a proactive but controversial leader in Pakistan since assuming office in 2018.
The 1992 Cricket World Cup-winning captain has defended his various decision though, by pointing at United, who he claims have a demographic three times the size of Pakistan.
Drawing on the perceived leaders at Old Trafford in Red Devils captain Maguire and boss Solskjaer, Khan insists he is not doing a worse job than those at Old Trafford.
“An estimated 660 million Manchester United fans have Harry Maguire as their captain and leader,” the 68-year-old told The Dependent at Pakistan Today.
“Can you imagine Maguire or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saying, ‘sab se pehlay aap ne ghabraana nahi hai [first of all don't you worry]’?.
“Be grateful that you have a World Cup-winning, all-time great, all-rounder leading you.
“220 million Pakistanis with Imran Khan as their captain should think of the 660 million Manchester United fans who have Harry Maguire as their captain.”
“They make ridiculous decisions in boards behind closed doors and you as the front have to justify them,” he went on.
“I have been dealing with the same issue as well. And yet, Solskjaer and Maguire are likely to be sacked before I am.
“Do you see any movement against Maguire, Solskjaer or the board/selectors?”
Khan’s controversial leadership was outlined last month when he called for the public hanging or surgically castration of convicted rapists.
"In my opinion, they should be hanged in the marketplace,” Khan said.
"Unfortunately, when we had the discussion, we were told it would not be internationally acceptable.
"The trade status given to us by the European Union will be affected."
The 67-year-old ex-sports star said: "The way there is first-degree, second-degree, third-degree murder, this should be graded in the same way.
"When there is first degree [rape], castrate them. Make them unable to do this."
