Manchester United will be using their midweek’s Europa League final against Villarreal as a final scouting mission for highly-rated Spanish defensive star Pau Torres.

United are rumoured to be in the market for reinforcements at centre back ahead of the 2021/22 season with Torres on their transfer radar alongside Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.

Varane is set for crunch contract talks in the Spanish capital in the coming weeks as he enters into the final 12 months of his contract at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid could be open to a sale, if Varane declines their current offer of a new deal, but the Frenchman is still rated in the region of £65m by Los Blancos, with Torres’ Villarreal release clause set at £50m.

United are open to paying the full clause to bring Torres to the Premier League, the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be forced into deciding which La Liga target to go for, as Premier League rivals Manchester City are also tracking Torres.

The pressure of a rival moving into the market could force United’s hand this summer, with reports from the Manchester Evening News claiming Torres’ camp are in no rush to complete a deal.
