Paul Pogba laughed off questions about his club future after delivering another stellar performance for France at Euro 2020. The midfielder was the standout player during his country’s 2-2 draw with Portugal, offering a timely reminder to Manchester United of the talent he possesses.
Pogba is out of contract next summer at Man Utd, with the club facing the prospect of the midfielder walking away from Old Trafford on a free transfer for the second time in his career.
And the 28-year-old seemed to be sending a clue about his preferred transfer destination when he took to the pitch in Budapest with his half black and half white, mirroring the colours of his former club Juventus.
But Pogba laughed off suggestions that the style was a transfer hint.
“My hair was black and white like Juventus shirt tonight? I was expecting this question!” Pogba said.
“I’m not thinking about my future, I’m only focused on the Euros. And my hair always change, you know!”
The Man Utd midfielder has consistently said that he is focussing on Euro 2020 with France rather than his club future this summer, although did suggest prior to the tournament that no agreement has been reached with the Old Trafford supremos.
“I have one year left on my contract, everyone knows that,” Pogba said in a France press conference. “There have been no concrete proposals for extensions. I’m still in Manchester.
“After the season there was the vacation, so I didn’t sit down with the managers and coach.
“My only thought, now, is the Euros. I’m focused. I’ve got more experience than before. I’m focused on the present, the Euros.”
Pogba’s sparkling Euro 2020 performances haven’t got unnoticed in France, with the French media heavily linking the World Cup winner with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
And any Man Utd hopes that they can persuade Pogba to stay at the club appear futile, with the player’s agent Mino Raiola saying that there is no future for the relationship.
“I can say that it’s over for Paul Pogba at Manchester United,” Raiola said in an interview with Italian publication Tuttosport last season.
“It is useless to go around it. Better to speak clearly, look ahead and not waste time looking for culprits: Paul at Manchester United is unhappy, he is no longer able to express himself as he would like and as expected of him.”
Pogba’s France topped Group F at Euro 2020 thanks to a win over Germany and draws with Hungary and Portugal, with the midfielder being named Star of the Match in the victory and setting up the key goal in the draw with Portugal.
Didier Deschamps’ France side face Switzerland in the round-of-16, with a quarter-final against either Spain or Croatia awaiting for the winner of that tie.
