Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should reject any move away from the club and stay at the Emirates, according to former Gunners hero Paul Merson. Aubameyang is out of contract at Arsenal in the summer of 2021 and is heavily linked with an exit. Manchester United are reportedly one of the clubs interested in signing the Gabon international.
But Merson believes Aubameyang has as good a chance of winning a trophy at Arsenal than at any other club in the Premier League, bar Liverpool and Manchester City.
So he cannot see the sense in leaving Arsenal in search of silverware.
“It’s easy saying ‘oh let’s move to another ambitious club and win stuff’ – there’s not a lot of trophies to win,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“When you’ve got two phenomenal football clubs at the moment in Liverpool and Manchester City, there’s not a lot that you can win.

“I was very fortunate to play for Arsenal for a very long time and it’s a great club.
“You’ve got to be careful, the grass is not always greener on the other side.
“He knows at his age now he’s going to play every week at Arsenal.
“If he goes to a Man United, if he goes somewhere else, you have four or five games playing for them and you’re out of the team.

“For me, if I was his agent, I’d be sitting with him and saying ‘you’re at one of the best clubs in the world, believe me, phenomenal football club’.
“They’ve got as much chance as winning something as anybody else bar Man City and Liverpool. So for me, I would stay.”
Meanwhile, the president of Gabon’s football association Pierre Alain Mounguengui has urged Aubameyang to leave Arsenal because the Gunners are not as ambitious as other clubs.
“I don’t want to say that Arsenal aren’t ambitious, but Arsenal don’t have ambitions as high as some other clubs as far as Europe is concerned,” Mounguengui told ESPN.
“So if Pierre could secure a contract with a more ambitious club, he’d definitely find his place there.”
