A pitch invader would have been the last thing Barcelona players were expecting in a behind-closed-doors match against Real Mallorca, yet a young fan managed to get access to the pitch in order to try and get a picture with Lionel Messi.

Despite no crowd being allowed inside the stadium for the La Liga match, a pitch invader managed to find his way onto the pitch before being escorted away by security guards wearing masks.

With Barcelona cruising in the game in the 53rd minute, the fan ran on the field wearing an Argentina national team shirt with Messi’s name on the back, confusing the players and staff alike.

It was a bizarre incident considering the game was being played behind closed doors

TV cameras switched to other players while the officials tried to deal with the situation, although we did get a glimpse of the invader as he was being escorted off the field.

He tried to get a selfie with Messi, who eventually came out of the match with two assists and a goal in Barcelona’s comfortable 4-0 win.

It was certainly a statement of intent for the rest of the season from the Catalans, in their first game back since coronavirus lockdown began.

Arturo Vidal gave Barcelona the lead within two minutes of the kick off, and Martin Braithwaite added to their lead before half-time.

Jordi Alba put the game beyond any doubt in the 79th minute, and Messi added to his own impressive tally in injury time.

With their win, Barcelona are now five points clear at the top of La Liga, although closest rivals Real Madrid have a game in hand.
