Police investigate Dani Alves over allegations he ‘put hands down woman’s pants’

Police are investigating Brazil and Barcelona legend Dani Alves over an alleged sexual assault in a Spanish nightclub.

Spanish outlet ABC has named Alves as the man identified by the victim at the scene of the alleged sexual assault. The 39-year-old – who has just returned to Spain after being part of Brazil's World Cup squad – has reportedly denied any wrongdoing.

The incident occurred at the famous Sutton nightclub, which often hosts the stars of the Catalan city. According to the paper, the woman alleged Alves put her hands down her pants, but she is yet to make a formal complaint.

A spokesman for the regional Mossos d’Esquadra police confirmed: “We are investigating an alleged sexual assault at a nightclub in Barcelona said to have occurred in the early hours of Saturday.

"The woman who made the allegation has been spoken to by police but she has yet to present a formal written complaint at a police station." The spokesman didn't confirm if the man in question was the ex-Barcelona man.

The footballer's representatives have confirmed Alves was at the venue for a short amount of time, but denies all allegations against him.

Alves had moved back to Barcelona, but he left the Catalan side over the summer to join up with Mexican giants UNAM Pumas.

The 39-year-old become the oldest Brazilian to represent his country at the World Cup when he played a role in Selecao's 1-0 loss to Cameroon in the group stage.
