Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti claims his side were ‘sh*t on by the referee’ after PSG suffered a shock 3-1 defeat away against Nantes in Ligue 1 on Saturday afternoon.
The French giants remarkably found themselves 3-0 down at half-time in the match with goals from Randal Kolo Muani, Quentin Merlin and Ludovic Blas securing the victory for the hosts at the Beaujoire Stadium.
Neymar brought a goal back for the visitors on 47 minutes, and missed a shocking penalty, but Verratti was not happy that Nantes’ Dennis Appiah escaped a red card for a foul on Kylian Mbappe.

Kylian Mbappe went down twice after Dennis Appiah appeared to fouled the Frenchman
Verratti, 29, was furious at the standard of refereeing and believed the home side should have been reduced to 10 men.
‘The referee should have given [Dennis] Appiah the second yellow for the foul he made [on Mbappe],’ Verratti told to Canal+ after the final whistle.
‘How is it possible not to give him the yellow? We got sh*t on by the referees!’
Appiah was initially shown a red card for tripping Mbappe as the forward was making his way to goal at the end of the first half.
However, VAR decided the challenge wasn’t worthy of a red and overturned the decision, ruling that the defender had not intentionally deprived Mbappe of a goalscoring opportunity.
Appiah escaped red after another tackle on Mbappe that escaped further punishment, leaving PSG director Leonardo also unhappy at the referees decisions.

‘The referee should have controlled better. With the fouls committed, we risk having players unavailable for 3 months like the foul on Kylian,’ he said to Canal+.
‘There is also the fact that we announced one minute of additional time in the first half and the penalty is whistled at the 49th minute!
‘I don’t want to be here to cry. It’s deserved to lose, but against us there is this desire to whistle against us. It’s embarrassing.’
Mauricio Pochettino has claimed it was not the referees fault that his side lost to Nantes
Since the loss, Pochettino has remained defiant that the referee was not to blame for his sides 3-1 defeat.
‘We had our first attack through Juan Bernat but they scored on the very next action,’ he explained. ‘We then conceded twice in first-half injury-time. We did some very good things in attack, but we didn’t control the defensive transitions against Nantes’ fast players. There were a lot of mistakes.
‘You have to separate things. We didn’t lose the game because of the referee. I can understand the frustration of my players and sporting director. You’d have to review the game but that doesn’t mean it’s why we lost.’
PSG are currently 13 points ahead of second place Marseille at the top of Ligue 1, and take on Saint-Etienne in their next league match.
