Dani Olmo has been linked with a move back to Barcelona and also to Manchester United, but it could be the other side of Manchester that have decide the Spaniard’s destination, and they could help out their rivals.

Manchester City and Manchester United remain fierce rivals on and off the field, and this standoff usually spills over into transfer dealings, with the clubs chasing similar stars.

The same occurred this summer as Cristiano Ronaldo looked set to join City, and then returned to United as the two locked horns, but the Portuguese star was always likely to favour a move back to Old Trafford.

Therefore, it’s rare that the two clubs actually help one another when it comes to transfer dealings, or anything financial or competitive for that matter.

However, Raheem Sterling’s situation could allow for an anomaly to the rule, as United and Barcelona chase RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo.

Dani Olmo has emerged as an incredibly bright talent across Europe, after starring for Spain and Leipzig after originally making a name for himself at Dinamo Zagreb.

Olmo moved to Croatia at the age of 14 after spending seven years in Barcelona’s youth academy, and now the Catalan side are interested in bringing the 23-year-old back to the Nou Camp.

United are also heavily interested, but with Barcelona also eyeing Sterling, there is chance that the Red Devils could move in for Olmo according to El Nacional.

Olmo has reportedly made it clear he wants to return to Barcelona and follow his dream that was made while playing in the academy as a young boy, but if the Catalan side prioritise Sterling, the Spaniard could push for a move to Old Trafford.

It’s no secret that Barcelona continue to suffer financially, and although a fantastic gesture, the fact the Dani Alves re-signed for the club this week on a €1-a-week contract signals just how cash strapped they really are.

Alves has joined up with Xavi Hernandez, who recently replaced Ronald Koeman as Barcelona manager and the Spaniard has returned to bring back identity to the club, and Olmo could be the next star to return.

However, Xavi has been eyeing up the Premier League and even mentioned that he’d love to bring in Mohamed Salah, but with his future at Liverpool for the time being, Sterling may be the next best option.

Despite a prolific European Championships with England, the on and off relationship with Pep Guardiola continues and his game time has been extremely limited this season.

Xavi cannot make signings without selling players and there could be a mass overhaul in January, with stars such as Frankie De Jong reportedly on the way out, and Guardiola’s likening for the Dutchman has only heightened rumours that Sterling could be heading the other way.

Sterling has been linked for some time, and the star could be exactly what Xavi’s new look Barcelona team need, but it would make it impossible for Olmo to sign.

Should City and Barcelona do business, it would open up the opportunity for United to sign Olmo, and Leipzig have promised to let him go after failing to secure a move in the summer.

There is also talk that City could do a loan deal for Sterling, making the move even more desirable to Barcelona as Guardiola looks to help out his former employers.

Olmo is reportedly desperate to return to Barcelona, but if he is snubbed by the club for a second time then he will almost certainly jump at the prospect of playing for United.

The Spaniard could join the likes of Naby Keita, Ibrahima Konate and Timo Werner should he trade Leipzig for the Premier League.
