Ralf Rangnick warned wantaway Anthony Martial is player “that gets you the sack”

Manchester United interim coach Ralf Rangnick has been warned Anthony Martial is a player who “gets you the sack”.

That is according to former Crystal Palace chief Simon Jordan, who has criticised Martial for failing to live up to his potential.

The France international arrived in a £36million deal from AS Monaco in 2015 as a teenager and has returned a respectable 79 goals in 268 appearances.

But the 26-year-old as fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho in the summer.

Martial has scored only once this season — opening the scoring in a 1-1 draw with Everton — in 10 appearances in all competitions.

His injuries coupled with a general loss of form resulted in a lack of game time under Solskjaer and it appears the former Monaco striker is ready to end his six-year association with the club.

The player’s agent, Philippe Lamboley, revealed his intention to leave in January and Rangnick, while not directly addressing Martial's future, hinted he could be allowed to leave.

"If I look at the number of players we have it’s still a big squad," he told reporters.

"We also need to make sure that players want to stay here.

"If they are still not getting enough game time here it might make sense to speak individually with the players and see if a loan might make sense.”

Discussing those comments, outspoken pundit Jordan believes Rangnick should be eager to push him towards the exit if a club shows interest in January.

“Get the cab ready and put Martial in it ready as quick as you can, and then you’ve got an opportunity,” Jordan told

, when asked if United should sell.

“Because I think Martial is one of those players who gets you the sack.

“I think he is the archetypal Manchester United player of the last half a decade that, on paper, looks a great player and has all the ability.

“But when it comes to it, [he’s got a] heart the size of a pea.”

He added: “If he wants to go, good riddance, if I’m United.”

Jordan had a similar warning for Solskjaer when the Norwegian was in charge back in January 2021.

And the French forward scored just seven goals in total last season, with Solskjaer receiving his marching orders 11 months later on November 21.

The former Crystal Palace chief blasted Martial for his “shocking performance” after Man United’s defeat to Tottenham last season, questioning his nonchalant attitude to football.

“He just plays like he’s not bothered whether he plays well or not. It’s a weird attitude to have,” he said back in January.

“When I used to go on a football pitch, I was just obsessed with trying to be the best player out there.

“Martial just plays like he doesn’t care whether he’s good or not.

“It’s just it’s weird how he plays because he’s got so much talent.”

Rangnick’s side face a wait over whether they will be able to play their weekend fixture against Brighton following a Covid outbreak at the club’s training ground.
