Rangers have been slated for their treatment of Billy Gilmour by former player Frank McAvennie.
It can be argued that youth products at the Ibrox outfit rarely get the chance to make much of an impact.
Not compared to Celtic, with McAvennie suggesting there are more opportunities to break into the first-team across the way in Glasgow.
However, defender Nathan Patterson got his chance for Rangers in a 2-0 win over Kilmarnock.
The 18-year-old was commended for his performance with coach Michael Beale comparing him to Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
When speaking to Rangers TV, Beale said: “Nathan’s come in and I think it’s just the impact to train every single day. Tavernier needs to look over his shoulder a little bit.
“I’ve lived this scenario before with Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool; a young right-back who had the same sort of energy, same sort of application to his work.”
And McAvennie believes it is about time a youth prospect made it at Rangers.
He also went on to state how they should have made more of an effort to keep hold of Gilmour, who has been touted for big things.
“It has been a long time since we have seen an academy player make a big impact at Ibrox,” he told Football Insider.
“Celtic have done it a few times with the likes of Forrest, McGregor and Tierney – a few have come through the ranks.
"It appears that they get given more of a chance at Celtic than Rangers.
“I am a great believer that if you are good enough you will make the team and Patterson is very close.
“I just do not understand why Rangers did not see what everyone else saw in Billy Gilmour.

“I do not get it. Can you imagine Gilmour at Rangers now? I am delighted he isn’t there!”
Gilmour joined Chelsea in 2017 and had a breakthrough campaign at the club this season under Frank Lampard.
The Englishman believes the youngster has a huge future at the Blues and was beginning to solidify a first-team spot prior to an injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season.
