Rasmus Hojlund’s footballing family could help Man Utd qualify against Bayern

Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund is relying on a huge Champions League favour from his siblings.

The Red Devils host German giants Bayern Munich at Old Trafford in a must-win fixture if they are to progress to the last-16 of the competition. But even if Erik ten Hag’s side come out on top, they need to hope that Copenhagen and Galatasaray draw in Denmark – otherwise they will crash out regardless.

United’s £72million summer signing Hojlund, 20, is expected to start and make an impact, having netted five goals already in the group stages. But it could be another Hojlund that comes to United’s rescue on Tuesday night.

Both of Hojlund’s younger twin brothers – Emil and Oscar – play for Copenhagen, the club where Rasmus first burst onto the scene. The pair have come through the academy ranks since the age of 13, and midfielder Oscar has broken into the first team this season.

The 18-year-old could make his fourth Champions League appearance in the crucial fixture at home to Galatasaray. He was trusted enough to come off the bench as his side suffered a 1-0 defeat to United in October, where he had the unforgettable experience of sharing the field with his Red Devil brother.

It remains to be seen whether Jacob Neestrup plays Oscar in the final group stage fixture. If he makes an appearance, the youngster could influence the match in a way which affects both United and Copenhagen's fortunes.

Emil, meanwhile, is yet to break through in quite the same way. The striker earned his first run out in senior football on March 10, 2022 when he came on as a late substitute in a 4-4 Conference League draw with PSV.

He made his Superliga debut on the first day of the season in a 2-1 win. But he only came on with one minute left and has not come off the bench since.
