Real Madrid ‘are close to completing the £68million signing of Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco’ after the European champions saw off competition from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder, currently on international duty with France, is expected to complete his move to the Bernabeu soon.

Reports in both France and Spain say the move is on the verge of completion with Tchouameni opting to join Real despite the overtures of PSG striker Kylian Mbappe.

Carlo Ancelotti will welcome the arrival of the defensive midfielder for a fee of about £68m

Tuesday’s edition of Diario AS splashed on Tchouameni’s move being close to completion

Marca also focused on the apparently imminent completion of the midfielder’s move to Spain

He will sign a five-year contract with Real, who had been monitoring his progress for some time before making their move.

Completion of the move was heavily dependent on what happened with Mbappe but the pace stepped up after the forward snubbed Real to sign a new contract with PSG, freeing up funds.

The Spanish club’s president Florentino Perez has closely watched the progress of talks with Tchouameni, which were stepped up in March.

Kylian Mbappe tried to convince his France team-mate to sign for PSG but to no avail

Tchouameni was also on the radar of Liverpool but reports suggest he will sign for Real Madrid

Mbappe called his France team-mate in an effort to persuade him to join him at the Parc des Princes but Tchouameni didn’t wish to leave Monaco for another Ligue 1 club.

Tchouameni scored five times and contributed a further three assists in 50 outings across all competitions for Monaco last season.

Real won their 14th European Cup when they defeated Liverpool 1-0 in Paris on Saturday night, with Carlo Ancelotti’s team also crowned champions of Spain a few weeks ago.
