Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will imminently act on a three-man transfer shortlist he devised in the summer, according to reports. Perez could go against the wishes of Real manager Carlo Ancelotti to bolster the club’s attack with one of three experienced names in January.

Real have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the La Liga season, sitting top of the table with 17 points from their opening seven games.

At the age of 33, Karim Benzema is showing no signs of slowing down, netting eight league goals already this term.

But Ancelotti doesn’t seem convinced with the Frenchman’s backup options, Luka Jovic and Mariano.

Perez could act as soon as January, where he looks set to target another veteran striker to compete with Benzema.

According to El Nacional, Real will focus on signing Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani in the winter transfer window.

Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and then-Galatasaray frontman Radamel Falcao Cavani joined Cavani on a list of Perez’s summer targets.

But Ancelotti wasn’t convinced by any and, in the end, got what he wanted in the sole signing of Eduardo Camavinga.

Perez wants to add attacking firepower to the Italian’s squad, though, and with Aubameyang and Falcao ‘very difficult’ to pursue, he will move for Cavani in January.

Cavani could be open to leaving United six months before his contract expires if an enticing offer for his services arrives.

After Cristiano Ronaldo’s summer return at Old Trafford, the 34-year-old won’t want to spend his twilight years as a rotation player.

Cavani has lost his place as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting striker after Ronaldo’s arrival and impressive start to his second stint in England.

A switch to Los Blancos in the new year may appeal to him, but Benzema’s continued form would likely mean he’d play the same role.

Cavani is likely the most attainable of Perez’s three striker targets heading into the January transfer window.

After Galatasaray terminated his contract on deadline day, Falcao returned to Spain earlier this month.

He’s enjoyed a scintillating start to life at Rayo Vallecano, scoring in all three of his appearances so far to help the club to fifth in La Liga.

Meanwhile, Aubameyang is currently Arsenal captain and an important part of Mikel Arteta’s plans at the Emirates Stadium.

With his contract expiring in 2023, the Gunners may be tempted to cash in at the end of the season, but a January exit is unlikely.
