Real Madrid’s worsening injury crisis was laid out on Monday when Zinedine Zidane was only able to name 11 senior outfield players in his 19-man squad for the visit of Getafe.

The LaLiga champions have been ravaged by injury this season and taking on city rivals Getafe is far from ideal when seven players in the squad are from the youth set-up.

Sergio Ramos, Toni Kroos, Fede Valverde and Eden Hazard are the big casualties but Zidane is also without Dani Carvajal, Lucas Vazquez, Alvaro Odriozola, Eder Militao and Rodrygo Goes.

Eden Hazard became the latest casualty and Zidane is now leaning heavily on youth players

The front cover AS laid out the stark reality of the limited options left at Zidane’s disposal

Goalkeepers: Courtois, Lunin and Altube.

Defenders: Varane, Nacho, Marcelo, Mendy, Chust and Miguel Gutiérrez Ortega

Midfielders: Modric, Casemiro, Isco, Marvin, Arribas and Blanco.

Strikers: Benzema, Asensio, Vinicius and Mariano.

Kroos is absent through suspension but the rest are all battling against injuries.

For Zidane, it is still not an ‘excuse’ they can use to justify a negative result.

‘There are no excuses, we know it’s a difficult situation but we want to put in a great performance,’ Zidane told reporters on Monday when quizzed on how the injury situation has become so stark.

Victor Chust, a defender who has impressed for the club’s Castilla ‘B’ team, is joined in the first team squad for the Getafe game by 19-year-old left back Miguel Gutiérrez Ortega.

Gutierrez gained minutes with the first team during pre-season ahead of the 2019-20 season and is viewed as one of the most exciting prospects at the club.

Chust has already debuted for the first team in the Copa del Rey.

He played 120 minutes in the defeat by Alcoyano and did well individually despite the result.

Midfielder Marvin Park – who spent three years as a youngster at Tranmere Rovers – has been included in the matchday squad.

Sergio Arribas and Antonio Blanco are the other two outfield starlets brought in to fill the gaps left by the injury crisis.

While not a player from the club’s youth teams, the injury crisis has presented a real opportunity to Isco with the Spain international firmly out of favour under Zidane.

He recovered from injury in recent days in one bit of good news for Zidane but the Real boss knows he can ill-afford another player to be struck down with such limited options available to him.

Centre back Victor Chust is being moulded as a long-term replacement for Sergio Ramos

Zidane has already used Miguel Gutierrez as part of a first-team friendly back in 2019
