Real Madrid star Valverde risks wrath of WAG with Champions League admission

Real Madrid star Federico Valverde has risked the wrath of his wife by joking he'd give her up to win the Champions League.

Los Blancos are gunning for their 14th European crown and a fifth in the last 10 years when they take on Liverpool on Saturday (May 28) night. But 23-year-old Valverde is yet to lift the trophy, having only joined the first-team after their 2018 success against Jurgen Klopp's side.

When asked by AS what he would give to get his hands on it, Valverde didn't beat around the bush. He said: "So much. Everything, I think. It’s a unique trophy for any player in the world.

"I’m willing to give so many things. Except my son. Maybe my wife." He quickly added: "No, no, it’s a joke. But I’d give a lot. It’s not every day you manage to play in a final. Hopefully we can win the title."

His clarification will have come as a relief to partner Mina Bonino, who is a TV presenter and journalist. The pair have been together since 2019 and have a son named Benicio.

Mina shares regular updates on their life to her 545k Instagram followers and will be cheering on Valverde, who has been a regular in Carlo Ancelotti's Real team this season, from the Stade de France stands this weekend.

The midfielder was also in the headlines earlier this week after accusing Liverpool's star man Mohamed Salah of disrespecting him and his team-mates when he said he'd prefer to face them instead of Manchester City, who they beat to reach the final.

"Obviously they're words that everyone can take however they want. I'm his opponent and it's like disrespecting the Real Madrid badge, the players," he said.

"The only thing we must do is give our best, try to show why we’re in the final and let’s hope we can give another trophy to the fans and to Real Madrid."
