Chelsea defender Reece James has been labelled: "football's unluckiest player" after he hobbled off against Everton.

James, 24, is widely considered to be one of most complete full-backs in world football. He has previously been linked with moves to Manchester City and Real Madrid.

However, the England international has been tormented by a wide variety of injuries over the last couple of seasons. After he pulled up short in the first-half of Mauricio Pochettino's side's clash at Goodison Park, football fans around the country started giving him a label he would not want to have at this stage of his career.

It's currently unclear as to what injury he suffered against the Toffees. However, he looked to be in plenty of discomfort when he trudged off in place of fellow academy graduate Levi Colwill.

Whatever pain he is suffering from, it has attracted a lot of sympathy from football fans. "Every time man, you gotta feel for James," said one fan. "How can one man be injured so much," a second added. "He is the unluckiest player in the world," a third added.

James has only played seven Premier League matches this season, contributing one assist. After playing an impressive games in their first match against Liverpool he went on to miss the next seven matches with another hamstring injury.

But despite being troubled with the same injury last season, he is yet to have surgery. He and the club also made a decision not to put him forward for further treatment on a knee injury, which also blighted his 2022/23 campaign.

Despite being handed his Blues' debut in 2019, he has only made 105 Premier League appearances for the club. Injuries have also affected the number of England caps he has, as Gareth Southgate has limited him to just 16 appearances for the Three Lions.

Pochettino was forced to move the left-footed Marc Cucurella out to right-back to compensate for James' injury. Chelsea have also been without summer signing Malo Gusto, who was brought in to deputise for James at right back, who has not featured since the 4-4 draw against Manchester City.
