Rio Ferdinand doubts Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has personality to turn around Man Utd

Rio Ferdinand has questioned whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has the necessary characteristics to turn around Manchester United's latest slump in form.

Following their 1-0 loss to Arsenal at the weekend, United suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Istanbul Başakşehir in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Both the hosts' goals came as a result of poor United defending, with their first particularly shocking after Demba Ba was allowed to run through on goal from a clearance with no defenders anywhere near him.

Speaking to BT Sport at full time, Ferdinand said the whole team needed to take responsibility for their part in the result.

"I’m begging that someone is in that changing room is dragging people about or asking the question ‘are you for real?" he said.

"'Do you know what’s going on, where’s your responsibility?’

"Is there someone standing up and saying ‘actually it was my fault’ or digging someone out, finger pointing, shouting. Surely that’s happening, I pray to God it is."

Ferdinand shared a dressing room with Solskjaer during their time together as players at United, and said he was not the sort to raise his voice.

"It wasn’t his personality as a player, no chance," Ferdinand added. "He was very quiet. But he was cutting with comments when he needed to be.

"I just hope he’s very animated in that dressing room, because them players need a rocket.

"The way they’re performing at the moment, the inconsistency, the way they allow players to run off them – there’s no intensity.

"I don’t see them getting up against people, ruffling feathers, on a consistent basis. We might see it one game, we don’t see it for two.

"You can’t do that at a top club. If you want to be at a top club, competing, you need that week in week out. That’s got to be the demands. You need that every week."

United face a tough game this weekend when they travel to Everton on Saturday, and anything other than a win could leave Solskjaer's job in huge jeopardy.
