Former England international Rio Ferdinand compared Trent Alexander-Arnold to Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Inter Milan.
Alexander-Arnold has played a starring role for Liverpool this season – registering 16 assists in all competitions. He has also scored two Premier League goals and created 16 big chances for the Reds.
As a result, Ferdinand has praised the Liverpool right-back for occupying dangerous ‘territory’, ‘executing’ his passes and creating chances for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Inter Milan on Tuesday evening, Ferdinand said Alexander-Arnold had be ‘phenomenal’ during the 2021-2022 campaign so far.
He has been impressed with how the youngster has been taking up far more central position – drifting in from the flank.
Looking a clip of the 23-year-old in action, Ferdinand said: ‘Look where he [Alexander-Arnold] is there [centrally] – that’s where he’s starting. That’s like Kevin De Bruyne territory in that position, almost like a false 10, 8 position.

‘You don’t get assists just from being in the right positions, you’ve got to be able to execute and that’s what he has above most. He’s a phenomenal footballer.’
Liverpool lost the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie against Inter Milan shortly after Ferdinand’s comments about Alexander-Arnold.
However, Liverpool have still managed to progress through to the quarter-finals of the competition after securing a 2-o victory at the San Siro.
Alexander-Arnold will be hoping to make an impact during the next stage of the tournament and his new positioning should allow him to do so.
The right-back’s positioning allows him to get closer to the goal. The benefits of his roaming were evidenced against West Ham on Saturday.

Southgate’s side are set to play friendlies against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast this month
The 23-year-old drove into the oppositions box and drilled the ball across the goal mouth to allow Sadio Mane to score from close range.
Alexander-Arnold’s assist helped Liverpool beat the Hammers 1-0 in their Premier League meeting at Anfield.
As a result, Liverpool have essentially found a way to utilise Alexander-Arnold as a midfielder without removing him from his right-back role.
Alexander-Arnold will be hoping his most recent performances earn him a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for England’s upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast this month.
