Romelu Lukaku wanted to return to Chelsea during his struggles at Manchester United, his agent, Federico Pastorello, has revealed.
The Belgian striker struggled to emulate his form from his time at Everton after joining Manchester United in 2017 and left the club after just two seasons at Old Trafford.
However, after moving to Italian giants Inter Milan in 2019 he rediscovered his form in front of goal and fired the club to their first league title in 11 years last season.
Off the back of his fine form for Inter, Lukaku got his long awaited return to Chelsea, having left the club in 2014.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Pastorello revealed: "During his last season at Man United he always had Chelsea in his head.
"Real Madrid as well I have to admit. That is another dream of his in terms of imagining his career, but Chelsea was always 100 per cent his target.
"They were the love of his childhood so there was always this desire to come back. It was a question of pride. He had that in his head and his heart."
Lukaku scored just 12 league goals during his second and final season with United, his second lowest tally in the Premier League.
Overall, he scored 42 goals in 96 appearances for the Red Devils before his departure to Inter two years ago.

Pastorello went on to add: "The market can offer you certain opportunities. I consider them like trains passing and when the right train stops at the right place, you need to step in and leave.
"I could tell summer 2021 would be an important market for him. Three or four top clubs were looking for important strikers and on the market there was not one for each club."
Lukaku transformed his fortunes at Inter and went on to score a staggering 64 goals in just 95 appearances in all competitions.
He thanked the club in September for saving him from a "deep hole" when they signed him from United.
Speaking to HLN, Lukaku said: "Kids love Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United. And Chelsea for me, everyone knows what Chelsea means to me.
"If they ask me, why would I say no? I only realised that Chelsea was serious at the third offer. So it was €100million [£85m], then it was €105m [£90m], and then it went to €110m [£94m]. Then I knew, this is truly serious.
"I was in a deep hole at Man United. I didn't want to go behind Inter's back.
"So after training I went to [Inter boss Simone] Inzaghi 's office. I didn't want to ruin the atmosphere because I was no longer with my head in Milan. So I asked him: please find an agreement."
Since returning to Chelsea this summer, Lukaku has scored four goals in 11 matches but picked up an ankle injury in a recent match against Malmo in the Champions League.
It is unknown when he will return to action, but he is understood to be sidelined for a considerable period of time.
