Chelsea news, exclusives and analysis
Liverpool and Chelsea have been battling it out to sign the 19-year-old Belgian and he looks set to turn down Anfield to head to Stamford Bridge instead.
It is another huge blow for Jurgen Klopp’s side after Moises Caicedo did the exact same thing last week.
Liverpool thought they were ready to welcome Caicedo to Anfield after agreeing a stunning £111m deal for the midfielder.
But it is Chelsea who are set to sign Caicedo from Brighton after agreeing a British record deal worth £115m.
That saw Liverpool turn their attentions back to Lavia, with Klopp making no secret of his desire to sign a new midfielder and even aiming a dig at Chelsea.
Liverpool had agreed a £60m deal with Southampton to sign Lavia ahead of Chelsea but the player is thought to be keen to join the Blues in a big twist.
The Athletic report that Liverpool have been made aware of Lavia’s choice and they will now be forced to focus on other transfer targets.
Liverpool and Chelsea played each other on Sunday in both sides’ first game of the new Premier League season, which ended in a 1-1 draw in west London.
The Reds are back in action on Saturday as they host AFC Bournemouth while Chelsea travel to West Ham on Sunday.
