Jordan Henderson and Al-Ettifaq's latest Saudi Pro League outing was watched by fewer fans than Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's Wrexham average gate in League Two.

Over the course of the summer, Saudi Pro League sides enticed a number of footballing superstars to ditch Europe in favour of moving to Saudi Arabia for lucrative sums of money. The likes of Neymar, Karim Benzema, Aymeric Laporte and Henderson all ventured over to the gulf state to join the project which looked at the time like it could potentially change the landscape of football.

However, while true they still have vastly deep pockets, and will likely spend even more money tempting players to move over to Saudi Arabia in the upcoming January transfer window, one thing money can't buy is an authentic product. Attendances at Saudi Pro League games have been laughable compared to the outlay their teams spent in the summer, with one game recently being attended by just 640 fans in an 8,000 seater stadium.

In fact, more fans on average have watched Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's Wrexham in League Two at the Racecourse Ground than Henderson and Al-Ettifaq's latest Saudi Pro League outing.

On Thursday night, 8,037 fans watched Al-Ettifaq in action against Al-Shabab at the Al-Shabab Club Stadium, which seats 15,000. In comparison, Wrexham's home games are nearly always sold out.

This season, the League Two side are averaging just over 10,000 fans for every home game at their 10,771 seater stadium. And after having won the National League last term, and with the club currently sitting second in the League Two table, it's easy to see why.

Wrexham have picked up 37 points from 20 games, winning 10 of those fixtures and drawing seven – a remarkable achievement given they did not pick up a league win until September after having played out some enthralling ties, which included a 5-5 draw against Swindon Town.

Sky Sports is bringing you 500 live football games to watch, as well access to Cricket, Golf, F1, Boxing, NFL, NBA and more across eight dedicated channels. Sky Sports is the only way to watch all the action this year.

Conversely, Henderson and Al-Ettifaq, who are managed by Steven Gerrard, sit eighth in the Saudi Pro League table, and have not won in their last six games – with their last victory coming way back at the end of October against Al-Wedha whom they beat 3-2
