Sead Kolasinac’s Arsenal future in the balance despite two years left on deal

Roma are eyeing up a move for Arsenal outcast Sead Kolasinac in the January transfer window, according to reports in Italy.

Kolasinac, 27, has fallen out of favour under Mikel Arteta at the Emirates this season.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina left-back finds himself behind Kieran Tierney in the Arsenal pecking order, meaning he has only made one Premier League appearance so far in the new campaign.

He still has two years remaining on his current Gunners contract, yet Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport claim Roma are interested in signing him in January.

Their report states the Serie A club have recently been approached about a potential deal for Kolasinac, who could be available in the winter transfer window after losing his place in Arteta’s side.

Roma are understood to be keen on signing the player as a replacement for Aleksandar Kolarov, who left to join Inter Milan over the summer.

Paulo Fonseca only has Leonardo Spinazzola and youngster Riccardo Calafiori at his disposal, yet his preference is to send the latter out on loan and replace him with a more experienced left-back in the short term.

And Kolasinac, who has made 108 appearances over three years at Arsenal, would certainly fit the bill.

The defender has been heavily linked with a move to Roma in the past, while West Ham, Bayer Leverkusen and former club Schalke are also said to be interested in prising him away from north London.

He appeared set to leave Arsenal in the summer transfer window, which closed last Monday, only to perform a dramatic U-turn in order to stay and fight for his place.

Should Tierney continue to keep him out of the Gunners side, though, Kolasinac may consider a January switch to Roma at the turn of the year.

There may be a chance for him to impress Arteta in Saturday’s clash with Manchester City, with Tierney unlikely to be involved after being sent home early from Scotland’s training camp for coming into close contact with a team-mate who tested positive for coronavirus.
