Sheffield United vs Manchester United prediction: How will Premier League fixture play out?

Sheffield United host Manchester United in the Premier League on Thursday evening as the visitors look to narrow the gap to the European places.

Man United enter the clash in mid-table on 20 points, while Sheffield United are rock bottom of the standings with just one point. The hosts were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Southampton on Sunday, a day after Man United played out an uninspiring 0-0 draw in their derby against Man City.

Chris Wilder’s side will be desperate for points and – in what has been an inconsistent season for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team – the Blades boss will feel an upset is possible. Fulham and West Brom managed respective draws against Liverpool and Man City this week, which will give Sheffield hope.

Man United, meanwhile, will see the points dropped by Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and Tottenham this week as an opportunity to narrow the gap to those clubs. Solskjaer’s men also have a game in hand over each side above them in the table – and two over Chelsea – so a win here would actually put them right in the mix around the top.

Sheffield United’s Jack O’Connell is still a way off returning from injury, and a shoulder issue is expected to keep out Oli McBurnie. Kean Bryan could also miss out due to injury.

Predicted line-ups

Sheffield United: Ramsdale; Basham, Egan, Stevens; Baldock, Berge, Ampadu, Fleck, Lowe; Mousset, Burke

Man United: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles; McTominay, Fred; Mata, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial

Odds

Sheffield United: 6/1

Draw: 18/5

Man United: 4/9

Prediction

The teams in a relegation battle have managed to scrape some points this week, so there is reason to believe Sheffield can here. But the safer bet is Man United to get it done – not easily, mind you. Sheffield United 1-2 Man United.
