Arsenal have been rocked by a goal of the season contender by Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Goncalves in their Europa League clash on Thursday night. The midfielder netted from inside the centre circle to level the scores at the Emirates Stadium. And it means the tie remains very much in the balance.

Arsenal took the lead against Sporting Lisbon in the 19th minute to boost their chances of reaching the Europa League last eight.

But Gonclaves has netted an outrageous strike to draw the Portuguese side level.

The midfielder, who previously struggled to shine in the Premier League at Wolves, lifted an effort over the head of Aaron Ramsdale to silence the Emirates Stadium.

He celebrated wildly, knowing he’s scored arguably the greatest goal he’ll ever net during the course of his career.

And it means the tie is now level at 3-3 on aggregate and 1-1 on the night.

Fans have taken to Twitter to react to the stunning goal, with @Noahson08 saying: “And like that Pedro goncalves outshines rashford tonight.”

@BinaniSergio said: “Pedro Gonçalves, WHAT A GOAL!”

“Pedro goncalves is a joke, what a goal,” were the words of @HarleySummers20.

“For Pedro Goncalves to try that when his side is 1-0 down and then pull it off? Great goal,” stated @JLABTV.

And @_captainSK7_ said: “What a Strike.”

Mark Schwarzer, commentating for BBC Radio 5 Live, was also left in awe of the strike.

“What an absolutely unbelievable strike from Pedro Goncalves,” said the Australian.

“He looks up and gets his head down straight away, sees Aaron Ramsdale off his line.

“It looks like Ramsdale is going to get back to make the save but it just out of his reach and it smashes it into the back of the net.”

And he added: “The warning signs were there. Arsenal really needed to maximise their opportunities but Sporting have been on the front foot since the start of the second-half.”
