Thiago Alcantara could inherit his favoured shirt number should he join Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
Things appear to be falling into place for the Reds and Thiago, with both parties equally keen to make a transfer happen over the next few months.
Thiago currently wears the number six shirt at Bayern Munich, which is occupied by centre-back Dejan Lovren at Liverpool.
But the Croatian is close to completing a transfer to Zenit Saint Petersburg, after being dropped to fourth choice at Anfield.
Mirror Sport understands that Liverpool are holding out for £10million for Lovren, which would go someway to funding a transfer for Thiago.
Not only this, but Lovren's absence would mean the number six shirt is up for grabs.
Thiago has one year left on his contract at Bayern Munich, and no plans to renew it.
The midfielder is confident of a move to Liverpool, and recently even sold his house in Germany. But Bayern have confirmed that they are yet to receive an offer for Thiago.
Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said on Thursday: "Hasan [Salihamidzic, sporting director] had talks with Thiago. They were always very positive, but he told Hasan some time ago that he wants to do something new to finish his career.
"So far no club has contacted us. We don't know if he's settled things with a new club."
The German giants are keen to keep hold of the Spaniard, but have conceded they would rather sell him now for a transfer fee than let him run his contract down and leave for free.
Bayern are looking for around £30million for the talented midfielder, but Liverpool want to pay a figure closer to £18m.
It is not yet known whether the sale of Lovren will free up funds for new recruits.
