The 38-year-old centre-back’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season after he arrived at Chelsea in 2020 following eight years at Paris Saint-Germain.

Brazil international Silva has made 91 appearances for the Blues across all competitions thus far and returns to face former club AC Milan on Tuesday.

‘What I can tell you is for me now, what is important, is to keep playing at a high level and achieving the best results,’ Silva said about a potential new deal.

‘There will be a time to talk, before or after the World Cup, because I will need to know about my future and family arrangements. We will see what will happen.’

Asked if he could be tempted to join AC Milan for a second stint upon the expiry of his Chelsea contract, Silva added: ‘I have already made my history here at AC Milan so this isn’t the case here anymore at the moment.

‘If this could’ve happened, it should’ve been before I joined Chelsea. But who knows, I will have to see then.’

Meanwhile, boss Potter provided an injury update ahead of their midweek Champions League clash.

‘Hakim [Ziyech] is ill,’ Potter said. ‘N’Golo [Kante] were just waiting for his reaction from his training.

‘It is certainly not ideal so we will have to wait and see the extent of it and go from there.

‘Everyone is available apart from the guys we mentioned. The fact we could rotate a few [against Wolves] helped us in terms of availability for this game [against AC Milan] and freshness.’
