Thomas Tuchel to Chelsea: Granovskaia impression, Lampard sack message, current job stance

Chelsea: Lampard's COVID concerns after Man City tests

Thomas Tuchel has been tipped to become the next Chelsea manager with Frank Lampard under pressure over at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have been inconsistent in the Premier League of late, winning just one of their five matches in the competition. So Express Sport will now take a look at everything we know.

Tuchel interests Chelsea…

It was reported by BILD on Monday that Chelsea were interested in making Tuchel their next manager.

And they even claimed he would be set to take over immediately should the Blues lose to Aston Villa.

That obviously didn’t happen, with Chelsea only managing a point instead.

PSG have today confirmed the sacking of Tuchel, saying on their website: “After an in-depth analysis of its sporting situation, Paris Saint-Germain decided to terminate Thomas Tuchel’s contract.”

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi then said: “I would like to thank Thomas Tuchel and his staff for everything they brought to the Club. “Thomas has put a lot of energy and passion into his work, and of course we will remember the good times we shared together. I wish him the best for his future.”

…And he’s interested in them

In the same BILD piece, it’s said Tuchel would actually be interested in replacing Lampard as Chelsea manager.

And that’s because of three players.

The German would reportedly likes the prospect of taking charge of compatriots Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Antonio Rudiger.

Both Havertz and Werner have struggled for consistency since their summer arrivals from Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig respectively.

Rudiger, meanwhile, has been shunted to the side this season.

Granovskaia impression

Back in 2018, Tuchel was linked with the Chelsea job following Antonio Conte’s departure.

And Rafa Honigstein said he ‘made a very good impression’ on Blues supremo Marina Granovskaia.

He said at the time: “I have it on pretty good authority that Thomas Tuchel made a very good impression on Marina Granovskaia in a meeting they’ve had.

“I don’t know how recent that meeting was.

“Remember, they were talking to him before the start of this season on the assumption that Conte might actually go.”

Lampard sack message

Chelsea shouldn’t sack Lampard and it’s too early to even talk about it, according to Andy Townsend.

“I think when Chelsea were having good spells a few weeks ago, they were able to get in front and create substantial leads in various games,” he said.

“As Frank said there, there’s a little bit missing at the moment. It’s not serious. It’s far from a crisis despite the fact that their current form isn’t great.

“The team showed today there’s a very competitive spirit in the camp, they’re capable of creating chances.

“I thought [Christian] Pulisic played very well again for them, looked very dangerous when he gets the ball at his feet. There’s still a lot to look forward to in 2021 if you’re a Chelsea fan.”
