Thomas Tuchel could be facing the sack if Chelsea lose to Liverpool and trail them and Manchester City further in the Premier League. The Blues have had a tough December with results, Covid and injuries.

Chelsea chief Roman Abramovich will not be happy if his club lose to Liverpool this Sunday and Tuchel could be out of a job.

That is the verdict from former Blue star Glen Johnson, who knows all about the hire and fire policies at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel has looked stressed this December after a tough month in the Premier League full of injuries, poor results and positive Covid tests.

Key players Ben Chilwell and Reece James are out for a considerable amount of time, Chelsea have drawn 1-1 three times at home this month and now Romelu Lukaku has told Sky Sports that he is not happy with the coach.

And the Belgian might not be the only one with Abramovich not known for his patient approach with his managers on King’s Road.

Next up are Liverpool with both clubs vying for the Premier League title – except that might be too far away at the moment.

That would almost certainly be the case for whoever loses, with City already eight points clear of the second-placed Blues.

Liverpool are in a vengeful mood after losing to Leicester while their last trip to Stamford Bridge saw them claim all three points.

While there has been little talk of Tuchel getting the boot, Johnson knows things can change in a heartbeat at Chelsea.

Speaking to BoyleSports.com, the former England defender said: “We know it’s the hottest seat in world football, but it would be super harsh.

“Roman Abramovich won’t be happy if the title race is over in January.

“So, of course, everyone expected them [to win the title], I even thought they were favourites at the start of the season. So Roman certainly won’t be happy if it doesn’t go down to the wire.

“There is always pressure in that position, so Tuchel might well be under pressure, but it would be harsh if he gets any sort of criticism.”

Chelsea go into their match against Liverpool stricken by injury with the aforementioned Chilwell and James already missing, leaving Marcos Alonso as the only full-back available.

Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen, Timo Werner and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are also expected to miss the clash while Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante are still unfit having just recovered from Covid and injury.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have a near clean bill of health with Thiago and Takumi Minamino returning while Andy Robertson will miss the match through suspension.
