Jose Mourinho is reportedly considering transfer listing Matt Doherty, who has struggled to adapt to his new surroundings in north London. The Republic of Ireland international made the £15million switch to Spurs from Wolves last summer, where he flourished under Nuno Espirito Santo and became one of the best full-backs in the Premier League.

Yet things haven’t gone to plan so far for Doherty at Tottenham and he looks a shadow of his former self.

Serge Aurier remains ahead of him in the pecking order, despite nearly being sold to AC Milan last summer.

Doherty excelled at Wolves in a wing-back and many feel his shortcomings for Spurs are because he’s playing in a back four.

It was a signing that Mourinho personally vouched for, with the Portuguese playing a key role in Doherty’s decision to switch clubs.

He revealed upon signing that Mourinho had sent him a series of pictures on WhatsApp of the changing room, stating that Spurs were waiting for him.

However, ESPN are now reporting that Mourinho is considering offloading Doherty already, due to doubts over his form and progress.

Although no decision has been made, Doherty could be transfer listed if he does not improve.

Spurs looked like the winners of last summer’s transfer window but things haven’t worked out for several of their new faces including Gareth Bale.

Their defence has proved a major issue with Tottenham now losing ground in the top-four race, whilst struggling to keep their head above water in ninth place.

One of their biggest problems has been settling on a centre-back pairing.

Mourinho appeared to finally settle on Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld before Davinson Sanchez got the nod ahead of the Belgian.

The former Ajax man has struggled though in recent weeks and now Spurs could be in the market for a new centre-back.

According to Get French Football News, Tottenham have held conversations over a move for Lille defender Sven Botman.

The exciting talent has also attracted interest from Liverpool in the past six months and now Tottenham are keen on exploring his availability.

Botman arrived at Lille from Ajax last summer and was brought in as a replacement for Arsenal man Gabriel Magalhaes.

The Dutchman has made an immediate impact, becoming the cornerstone of the Lille defence as they sit top of Ligue 1.
