Tottenham Hotspur fans let rip at "disgusting" Matty Cash after the Aston Villa defender injured Rodrigo Bentancur.

The Uruguayan was starting his first match since February after an injury plagued year for Spurs. Ange Postecoglou's side immediately looked rejuvenated by his industrious and creative presence in the middle of the park.

It was also a huge boost for the club, who have been struggling with injuries to the likes of James Maddison and Pape Sarr, while Yves Bissouma is currently suspended. However, their struggles were made even worse when Cash scythed Bentancur down with a rash challenge.

There appeared to be little danger when Bentancur received a pass and began to drive the ball forward. However, an out of position Cash caught up with him and swung his right leg through the side of the South American's knee.

Bentancur stayed on the ground for a long time, before he got back to his feet and urged the referee to restart the game. However, after less than two minutes, he sunk back down to the floor again and told the bench he could not carry on. Tottenham fans were left furious.

"Bentancur just got back, Matty cash I will hate you forever," one angry fan wrote on social media. "Matty Cash just injuring Bentancur there. Should be a red card. Pathetic refereeing," a second added.

"Bentancur down after a nasty tackle from Cash. He initially got up but looks like he'll have to go off now. Cash badly injured Matt Doherty a couple of seasons ago, and some of the Spurs players are furious with him," wrote another fan.

Meanwhile, a more angry Tottenham supporter said: "F*** off Matty Cash. you disgusting player." Bentancur has struggled with injuries ever since he joined the club from Juventus in the 2022 January transfer window.

His 30 minute spell against Villa was only his third appearance of the season. Last year, he only had 18 outings for the North Londoners, contributing five goals and two assists.
