Tottenham Hotspur supporters have revealed a manager merry-go-round theory that they believe will see Mauricio Pochettino return to the club. The club are still searching for Jose Mourinho’s permanent replacement after sacking the Portuguese boss in mid-April.

They have suffered a number of setbacks in that search, with frontrunners such as Julian Nagelsmann joining other clubs instead.

It has been a stunning few weeks for managerial departures, with three of the big five European league title winners leaving their clubs.

That includes Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte, who left the Italian champions by mutual consent earlier this week.

Hansi Flick and Christophe Galtier joined him in leaving Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Ligue 1 winners Lille respectively.

Adding his name to the high-powered list of managerial departures is Zinedine Zidane, who has left his role at Real Madrid.

With an aging squad and mounting financial issues, Real failed to win a trophy for the first time in 11 seasons this term.

That has led to Zidane cutting short his second spell with Los Blancos a year before his contract expires.

While they thanked him for his “professionalism, dedication and passion”, Los Blancos added they “must now respect” his decision to resign.

Zidane’s departure has prompted Tottenham fans to state their thoughts on a possible theory that could lead to Pochettino’s reappointment as manager.

The Argentine left the club in November 2019 after a successful five-year spell, taking nearly a year out of the game before joining Paris Saint-Germain.

But many now see Daniel Levy’s decision to sack Pochettino as a mistake, with the now PSG boss one of the favourites to succeed Mourinho.

Most Spurs supporters would be delighted to see Pochettino return, with some also appearing to believe that Zidane and Conte could prove crucial.

Several fans have tweeted about how they believe that following Zidane’s departure, Conte will take over at Real.

They also think that having left the Bernabeu, Zidane will now move back home to France to become the PSG boss.

That in turn would free up Pochettino, who will then be able to return to the Premier League with Tottenham.

Such a merry-go-round has moved a step closer to taking place, with The Athletic reporting that Tottenham have opened talks with Pochettino about a return.
