Tottenham ‘have three advantages’ over Juventus to pip them to Kessie transfer

Postecoglou adresses links between Kane and Bayern Munich

Tottenham reportedly have three advantages as they seek to beat Juventus to the signing of Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie, Italian reports claim. Kessie has supposedly been eyed as a key target to help Ange Postecoglou improve his midfield.

The Ivorian is one of the stars Barca are prepared to sell this summer. Despite winning La Liga under Xavi Hernandez last season, the Spanish giants still need to balance their finances.

Kessie could therefore depart the Camp Nou over the coming weeks and has interest from the Premier League. Reports in Italy claim that Spurs are one of the strongest contenders to secure the 26-year-old’s signature.

Spurs face competition from Juventus to sign Kessie. However, reports in Italy suggest that Postecoglou has three advantages that could help him complete a transfer.

According to Corriere dello Sport, a £13million (€15m) would not be an issue for Spurs. The north Londoners face Barca in a friendly on August 8, which presents a perfect opportunity for the two clubs to thrash out a deal.

Additionally, it is claimed that Kessie is keen to experience playing in the Premier League. He would prefer a move to England over returning to Serie A, where he has previously played for AC Milan and Atalanta.

The midfielder started just seven La Liga fixtures last year, leaving him hoping to find a new challenge. Spurs need to bolster their ranks in the middle of the park, with Postecoglou’s system demanding more dynamic players than the Australian currently has at his disposal.

Postecoglou wants to crack on with improving his squad over the coming weeks. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison are the club’s only new signings this summer.

A new centre-back is needed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It seems that the North Londoners are no closer to completing a move for Wolfsburg starlet Micky van de Ven, although Blackburn teenager Ashley Phillips is reportedly closing in on a switch from the Championship outfit.

Most of the noise at Spurs this summer has surrounded the future of Harry Kane. Bayern Munich failed in their latest attempt to sign the England captain and are £25m apart from the fee that would tempt chairman Daniel Levy to negotiate.

Kane could now see out the remainder of his contract at Spurs. The 30-year-old has a year left on his deal and could either pen renewed terms or leave for free in 12 months’ time.
