Tottenham look set to land their fourth summer signing as they try to lure Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu to the club according to reports. The north London side are hoping to further strengthen their backline after already signing Atalanta’s Cristian Romero on an initial loan deal.
Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo has been chasing Tomiyasu all summer but has had to be patient as the Japan international has been back on home soil competing in the Olympic Games.
The 22-year-old impressed during the tournament as his country went down to Mexico in the bronze medal match.
According to Calciomercato, Spurs have offered £18million for the defender, but Bologna are after £22m.
Tomiyasu has already apparently agreed personal terms, meaning a deal to bring the defender to the Premier League may be close if the two clubs can finally overcome the obstacle of the fee.
Spurs looked anything but assured at the back last season and conceded 45 goals on their way to seventh-placed league finish.

The heart of their defence was a problem area, with Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez all coming under fire throughout the season.
Alderweireld has since moved to Al-Duhail SC, with Tottenham chiefs hoping new addition Romero can transform their defence.
Romero had an outstanding season at Atalanta last time out and was named the best defender in Serie A.
“I’m very happy to be wearing this shirt and to come to this club,” Romero said following his move to England.

“I want to thank the fans for all the messages. You wanted me here and I am here.
“Now I’ll try and respond and show faith that the club is showing in me.
“And I’m ready to start and give everything for this shirt. Come on you Spurs.”
If Tomiyasu were to make the move to Nuno’s side, he would become the club’s fourth signing of the summer, with winger Bryan Gil joining from Sevilla and keeper Pierluigi Gollini also coming in on loan from Atalanta.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are growing frustrated in their quest to sign striker Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan.
Spurs had apparently agreed a fee with the Serie A giants over the weekend for the 23-year-old, but Inter appear to have made a u-turn and are now demanding more money.
Inter appear reluctant to allow Martinez to leave, with strike partner Romelu Lukaku set to depart the club to return to Chelsea in the coming days.
The duo racked up an impressive 41 Serie A goals between them last term and Inter don’t want to lose all their firepower in one window.
