Tottenham ‘put seven stars up for sale’ ahead of Ange Postecoglou appointment

Head coach Antonio Conte leaves Tottenham by mutual consent

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will reportedly sanction a major squad reshuffle once Ange Postecoglou has taken over as manager. The outgoing Celtic boss’ arrival in north London is thought to be ‘imminent’, and the summer of transformation is expected to include the sale of seven first-team stars.

Following drawn-out links to Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique and Arne Slot, Spurs are finally poised to appoint Antonio Conte’s permanent successor in Postecoglou. The Greek-born manager sealed a superb silverware treble with Celtic on Saturday, which looks to have been his final act north of the border.

According to The Telegraph, Postecoglou’s appointment could be confirmed on Tuesday. To make space in the squad and free up funds for a transfer push this summer, Levy is reportedly willing to let go of seven big-name players.

Hugo Lloris and Ivan Perisic are deemed two of the most likely to make way as Spurs look towards younger options. Lloris is the latest in a long line of players linked with a big-money move to Saudi Arabia.

Spurs spent Conte’s reign playing with a back-three, but Postecoglou’s preference for a back-four is sure to see wholesale squad changes in defence. As a result, Eric Dier and Ben Davies are believed to be on the chopping block ‘if bids are forthcoming’.

Both players appeared in the vast majority of Tottenham’s Premier League games last term, so auctioning them off would be a major statement of intent by Postecoglou and Levy as they look to reaffirm that the club’s eighth-place finish was not good enough.

Joining those four on the for-sale list is reportedly the on-loan trio of Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks. The out-of-favour stars spent last campaign with Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and Sampdoria respectively, while there is thought to be no way back for them in north London.

One forgotten man who could be in line for a second chance, however, is Tanguy Ndombele. Much has been made of Postecoglou’s possession-based system and how it could suit the Frenchman, who just won the Serie A title on loan at Napoli.

Ndombele remains Spurs’ all-time record signing and Jose Mourinho previously branded him one of the most talented midfielders in Europe. Postecoglou is set for a ‘close look’ at the 26-year-old before coming to a final decision.

Alongside a wide-ranging clearout, Levy and Postecoglou are set for a busy few months fending off interest in Harry Kane. Real Madrid and Manchester United have both been tipped to launch big-money bids and the striker is surely hungry for silverware at this stage of his career.
