Tottenham are said to have tabled an offer of over £17million to sign Euro 2020 star Mikkel Damsgaard, according to reports in Italy. The Dane threatened to break English hearts in the semi-finals at Wembley earlier this summer, when he smashed home a stunning 25-yard free-kick past the helpless Jordan Pickford.

But it wasn’t to be for the Danes, who were sent packing following Harry Kane’s dramatic winner in extra-time after his penalty was saved by Kasper Schmeichel.

Now Damsgaard could potentially be lining up alongside the England captain next season, with Spurs now hot in pursuit of the winger.

New technical director Fabio Paratici, who has been working tirelessly since his arrival to secure the right deals for Nuno Espirito Santo, knows Serie A like the back of his hand after 11 years with Juventus in Italy.

He has already targeted a host of players from the division this summer including Pierluigi Gollini, Cristian Romero and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Atalanta defender is set to follow his former teammate to north London after a £43million deal was agreed with the club earlier this week.

Romero will become the club’s third signing after the goalkeeper and Bryan Gil, who will officially join up with his new teammates after the Olympics where he is representing Spain.

Yet Romero and Gil may not be the only new arrivals in the coming weeks as according to La Repubblica in Italy as relayed by Calciomercato, Tottenham have now made their move for Damsgaard.

The report claims that Spurs have tabled an offer worth over £17m for the young star.

It does fall short of Sampdoria’s £34m valuation of the player, however, meaning Tottenham will have to raise their offer to secure a deal.

Damsgaard is also believed to be an option for Roma, as he looks to secure a move this summer following his impressive showing on the international stage.

Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has been offering the player to Jose Mourinho’s new club after talks with Arsenal for Granit Xhaka broke down.

“If they call me, we will agree (to sell). Damsgaard is better than Xhaka,” said Ferrero.

“(Damsgaard) is a quality midfielder, he can play in that (holding) role. Let’s sit down, they just need to call me and we will find a solution.

“Xhaka won’t go to Roma, then they need another midfielder. I want (Damsgaard) to go to Roma.

“I’m a Roma fan and Damsgaard would be a great reinforcement.”

Tottenham are also continuing to work on player sales with Serge Aurier and Moussa Sissoko among those who can leave.
