Tottenham targets including Conte’s ‘No 1 Harry Kane replacement’ agree to join
‘It is obvious why we signed a striker’ says United boss after loss at Tottenham
The search for the next Harry Kane at Tottenham appears to have been narrowed down to two viable options, according to reports. Spurs fans were left devastated when record goalscorer Kane chose to end his 19-year association with the North London club by making an £85.5m switch to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich this summer.
It has left Tottenham’s new manager Ange Postecoglou with a huge void to fill as the Australian looks to steer his team back into the Champions League this season.
With four goals in their first two matches, Kane’s old club have adapted quickly to life without their talisman, but that is not a long-term solution and Postecoglou appears to be honing in on two potential replacements in particular.
Perhaps the most eye-catching name on the shortlist is Canadian goal-getter Jonathan David. The 23-year-old Lille striker found the net 24 times in Ligue 1 last season and according to GiveMeSport he is keen on making the move to the Premier League.
Furthermore, the same report claims that Tottenham’s interest in David is not something new, because former boss Antonio Conte had already identified the Brooklyn-born forward as a potential replacement for Kane, had the England captain left Spurs during his managerial tenure.
David would be expected to command a transfer fee in the region of £50-£55m according to the report and with the player himself said to be keen on the move, there could be some movement on that valuation should Postecoglou hold the transfer target in the same high regard as his predecessors Fabio Paratici and Conte.
The other name heavily linked with a move to Spurs is Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson and the same outlet claims that the 22-year-old Welsh international remains keen on making the move to the capital.

Suggestions that Tottenham are preparing a bid for Johnson appear to be realistic with Spurs understood to have fended off interest from Chelsea who feel that the target would prefer a move to North London.
Meanwhile, Kane typically marked his Bundesliga debut with a goal, as Bayern Munich won 4-0 away to Werder Bremen last Friday in their season-opener. Kane scored the Bavarian club’s second goal 16 minutes from time when he swept a low right-foot shot into the net, but not before setting up Leroy Sane for the opening goal.
Kane remains England’s all-time top goal scorer with 58 international strikes to his name in 84 appearances.
