There is just five days left until Christmas but that doesn’t mean a pause in football’s rumour mill ahead of the January transfer window. 

As injuries wrack up and a packed fixture list begins to take its toll, a number of Premier League sides are assessing whether their ranks have the necessary depth to challenge in the second-half of the season.

It was reported yesterday that Manchester United won’t see any significant arrivals in the January transfer window as they focus on finding clubs for their current players including Jadon Sancho. 

But other clubs such as Newcastle – who have been decimated by injuries – might opt to fill holes in their squad come January.  

Here’s our morning round-up of the latest transfer gossip on Wednesday. 

Manchester United will focus on outgoings such as Jadon Sancho during the January window

Liverpool are not in the race to sign Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha during the January window. Bayern Munich want a No 6, though internally he is considered too expensive. (Sky Germany)  

Real Madrid are considering a shock move for Galatasaray striker Mauro Icardi this winter. Icardi, who has returned to form with 12 goals in 15 games, would compete for a position up front with Joselu. (Radio Marca) 

Tottenham’s hunt for Genoa defender Radu Dragusin has been dashed as the Romanian – also linked with Manchester United – is set to sign a new deal with the club in the coming days. (Fabrizio Romano) 

Spurs, Aston Villa and Brighton have made contact with Juventus about the possibility of signing 20-year-old English winger Samuel Iling-Junior. (Tuttomercatoweb) 

RB Leipzig are keen on signing Manchester United’s exiled winger Jadon Sancho, though the England international’s wages might be a problem for the Bundesliga side. (BILD )

Borussia Dortmund are interested in Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon who is loan at Manchester United. Reguilon has a clause to end his loan in his contract. (BILD)
