Transfer news LIVE as Man Utd eye Hojlund back-up and Chelsea given £13m boost

Football Digest: Rating Man City's transfer business so far

With the 2023/24 Premier League campaign set to get underway in exactly a week, transfer plans are expected to be accelerated over the coming days. All of the Big Six are on the cusp of breakthroughs in their respective negotiations, and they could be forced to compromise if bids are knocked back so soon to next season.

Chelsea are expected to announce the arrival of Axel Disasi from Monaco imminently, with a deal in principle now also agreed with Brighton for Robert Sanchez worth up to £25million. However, talks with the Seagulls for Moises Caicedo are ongoing and they are prepared to table another bid for his services, though it remains to be seen whether it matches his £100m valuation.

Manchester United are also on the verge of announcement after welcoming Rasmus Hojlund to their squad from Atalanta in a deal that could reach £72m. Erik ten Hag made it his priority to sign at least one striker this summer, and a second arrival in that department should not be ruled out.

Manchester City and Tottenham have also reportedly agreed on respective deals for Josko Gvardiol and Alejo Veliz, but it is unclear whether either player will be ready for the opening weekend of the upcoming season. Express Sport keeps you up to date with all the latest transfer news…

Chelsea £13m boost

Chelsea are reportedly set to bank £13milllion thanks to a sell-on clause inserted into Tino Livramento’s contract when he was sold in 2021.

The right-back joined Southampton in a deal worth £4million, with the Blues reluctantly greenlighting the exit, striking a compromise that they would allow their academy graduate to leave if they received 50 per cent of the profit made on his next sale.

Livramento is now set to join Newcastle in a deal worth £35m, which will therefore see  £13m diverted back to Stamford Bridge – add-ons are also included in the deal which could provide Chelsea with a further £2.5m.

Man Utd eye Hojlund back-up

Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on Santos striker Marcos Leonardo as they look to bolster their forward ranks.

According to Calciomercato, Santos are willing to sell Leonardo this summer if they receive a bid in the region of £13million.

Numerous sides have been credited with holding an interest with the 20-year-old, including Lazio, Roma and Nottingham Forest also in the mix. Leonard is said to favour working with Jose Mourinho which could prove important if several offers are tabled.

United will be hopeful that they can lure the forward to the Premier League with regular opportunities to play at Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag looks for a young forward to provide cover for Rasmus Hojlund.
