Manchester United’s summer-long pursuit of Frenkie de Jong is still going on, though the club are set to meet the midfielder for talks in a last bid to persuade him to join once Barcelona’s US tour is over.
The Red Devils are also on the lookout for a striker and a right-back and have been offered someone in the latter department in Benjamin Pavard, who is also being targeted by Chelsea. However, as things stand, United are reportedly not keen on a deal.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are in negotiations with Chelsea to sign Timo Werner on loan. His former club RB Leipzig are also keen, but the striker is said to be ‘desperate’ to prove himself in England, giving the Magpies an advantage.
A number of other big Premier League clubs are set to be active over the coming weeks of the transfer market, with Tottenham linked with Nicolo Zaniolo and Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confirming that he is still working on deals to bring fresh faces to the club.
The likes of Liverpool, Everton and West Ham may also be busy while there is expected to be plenty of movement across Europe as we head into the last month of the window.

Newcastle open Chelsea negotiations
Newcastle are reportedly in talks over a loan deal for Chelsea outcast Timo Werner.
Eddie Howe is desperate to strengthen his attack and has grown frustrated at the lack of forward incomings this summer.
Werner has now emerged as an option after the German publicly revealed he is considering his future. The 26-year-old is desperate to go to the World Cup but has not had enough game time at Stamford Bridge.
The Mirror reports that Newcastle have opened talks with Chelsea over a potential temporary switch for Werner.
The player is also believed to be in talks with former club RB Leipzig over a return.
Man Utd’s Frenkie de Jong latest
Manchester United will meet with Frenkie de Jong when Barcelona’s pre-season tour of the US is done, according to reports.
The Red Devils have chased the midfielder all summer but have hit several stumbling blocks.
An initial fee of £65m has been agreed between United and Barca for some time. But it is unclear if De Jong wants to make the switch.
Spanish publication Sport claim that members of the Old Trafford hierarchy will meet with the Dutchman once Barca have finished their pre-season tour. It will be a last-ditch attempt to convince the player to make the move.
Man Utd offered Chelsea target
Manchester United have reportedly been offered rumoured Chelsea target Benjamin Pavard.
The Bayern Munich defender is understood to be exploring his options this summer and is keen to earn more frequent minutes as a centre-back.
Pavard has played most prominently as a right-back for Bayern and scored in their 5-2 Super Cup win over RB Leipzig on Saturday evening.
Chelsea have Pavard on their shortlist as they look to strengthen Thomas Tuchel’s back three. But according to German outlet Sport1, Man Utd have also been offered the Frenchman.
