Real were reportedly aiming to finalise a £49million deal for van de Beek, but may no longer be able to finance such a deal due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

United are eager to pay £36million for van de Beek, who has been capped by the Netherlands on ten occasions.

The 23-year-old has produced some excellent performances for Ajax and helped them to win the league and cup double last season.

Ajax are eager to retain the services of van de Beek, who has just over two years remaining on his current contract.

A player who is capable of operating as an attacking midfielder or in a slightly deeper position, van de Beek is likely to be the subject of much interest this summer.
