It may be a little later in the year — and feature unfamiliar rules — but the semifinal round of the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League is finally here.
The first of the Champions League matchups features two clubs attempting to clinch their first berths in the finals match: Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig, the former of which has been mired in the Round of 16 each of the last three tournaments (and quarterfinals in the prior four). Leipzig, meanwhile, is making only its second-ever appearance in the Champions League after advancing to the group stage in 2017-18.
Tuesday’s meeting between these clubs will have much higher stakes than usual; the six-month delay of the tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic means the semifinal matchup will be a single-knockout as opposed to the usual aggregate score over two matches.
Neymar and Kylian Mbappe will try to lead Paris Saint-Germain past the younger German club, which earned its position with a surprising 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinals. That said, it will be interesting to see how much further Leipzig can advance without 34-goal Timo Werner, who still ties the team lead with four goals in the Champions League despite signing with Chelsea in mid-June. The team has since turned to Emil Forsberg and Marcel Sabitzer, who each have four goals in the Champions League heading into the semis.
Here’s everything you need to know about Tuesday’s semifinal match, including the start time, TV channel, live stream options and remaining Champions League schedule.
