Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is not entirely convinced about the idea of replacing Casemiro at Real Madrid before the end of the summer transfer window, according to reports. The former Lyon playmaker has reportedly emerged as a surprise midfield target for Real Madrid, who appear to be resigned to losing Casemiro to Manchester United over the coming days.

The latter is reportedly set to undergo a medical with the Red Devils in the not-too-distant future but is not expected to be registered in time to feature in Monday’s crunch Premier League clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford. Real Madrid are now said to have identified Guimaraes as a possible replacement for Casemiro but the Newcastle man is not keen on joining Los Blancos as things stand, according to CBS Sports.

It is said that Guimaraes is perfectly happy with life at Newcastle and has no desire to walk away from St James’ Park after less than a year on the club’s books. The Magpies, meanwhile, are believed to be reluctant to sell their prized asset at any price, which suggests that Real Madrid could be forced to look elsewhere in their efforts to replace Casemiro this summer.

The Spanish giants are thought to have already taken steps to explore the possibility of a move by reaching out to Guimaraes’ representatives in order to gauge his interest in joining their ranks. However, there is an understanding at the Bernabeu that a deal will be incredibly difficult to engineer as a result of Newcastle’s firm stance against selling Guimaraes and the player’s desire to remain on Tyneside for the foreseeable future.

Guimaraes has played every minute in the Premier League for Newcastle this season and looks set to take on a pivotal role for Eddie Howe’s side once again over the course of the new campaign. The Magpies boss insisted in no uncertain terms that Guimaraes will not be going anywhere before next month’s all-important transfer deadline when quizzed on Real Madrid’s interest on Friday, with Carlo Ancelotti seemingly facing an uphill battle to land the 24-year-old if Casemiro joins United as expected.

“We’re trying to build a squad here that we feel can take the club to be successful over the next few years, and we want to build that squad and enhance the group, not take away our best players,” Howe told reporters.

“Regarding speculation, I’ve got no problem with that as such. It’s a compliment to Bruno and how well he’s done for us. He’s been incredible and I think he’s only going to get better from this point.

“He’s a very valuable member of our team. You have to consider the person as well. Bruno is a brilliant lad who came here when the club was in a relegation battle with no conditions and no way out, no escape clause.

“He wanted to fight and that showed real human qualities. He was all in from day one and that is reflected in how well he’s done here.”
