Arsenal may be delaying the announcement of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s new contract until the eve of the new season, reckons Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol. Aubameyang is said to be close to putting pen to paper on a new three-year deal at the Emirates. The 31-year-old’s current terms are set to expire at the end of the upcoming campaign.
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has continuously stated his confidence that Aubameyang would extend his stay at the club.
The striker is vital for Arteta going forward, having top scored with 27 goals in all competitions last season.
Aubameyang has been back in the UK for over two weeks after he was given a mini-break following the club’s FA Cup success at the beginning of August.
But an announcement is yet to be made over his long-term future.

But speaking on Wednesday’s The Transfer Show, Solhekol reckons Arsenal are holding fire on announcing the news until Friday – the day before Arteta’s side visit Fulham in the Premier League.
“Sometimes when you get good news announcements, clubs like to do it on the eve of a season,” Solhekol said.

“So could we have the situation where Arsenal are keeping it up their sleeve and waiting to announce it the day before their first game of the season?
“I think there was some pictures as well today of their new third kit and Aubameyang featured very, very prominently in those pictures which were released.”

Dharmesh Sheth agreed with Solhekol and is expecting the Arsenal media team to pull out the stops when the new contract is announced.
Sheth said: “Potentially, it could happen this week couldn’t it. What a boost that would be heading into the new season.
“I reckon the announcement video will be something else. No pressure.”
And fellow reporter Bryan Swanson admitted delaying an announcement is a tactic often used by clubs.
“It’s all about the strategy isn’t it? It’s all about the marketing,” Swanson said.
“We in the media just love announcements immediately, as soon as it’s done, announce it.
“But sometimes clubs do step back, they wait, whatever their target is, whenever they’re going to hit their maximum audience of the new season.”
