Boom three-year-old Orbisyn powers to fourth straight win at Doomben

Boom horse Orbisyn will head to the paddock after extending his unbeaten record to four at Doomben on Wednesday.

The David Vandyke-trained three-year-old never raised a sweat during his first race over 1350m, marking him as one of Queensland’s most exciting horses.

Owner Jan McMillan famously knocked back seven-figure offers from Hong Kong for the gelding and Vandyke said punters will eventually get to see how he stacks up against stronger opposition when he returns from a break.

“We will keep the bigger races on the radar but we will put him in a fairly average race to start off with,” he said.

At Black Caviar-like odds the @vandykeracing13 gelding wins like a good thing in Race 4 at Doomben under @RMaloney_Jockey.

Orbisyn ($1.12) has been a labour of love for Vandyke, who admits the promising galloper has sometimes kept him up at night.

“He will go to the paddock now, I think for my sake more than his,” he said.

“He has caused a few sleepless nights. He was probably $1.06 in the run but $1.20 to go in the gates so it was good we got him there.

“He likes things his way and it has really been a challenge to meet him in the middle.

“As soon as he starts getting bullied he resents it and goes in the other direction.”

Orbisyn’s stablemate Weona Smartone ($1.20) followed up with a victory that was equally dominant in a Benchmark 78 over 1200m.
