Gun colt Explosive Jack has opened as favourite to complete a sensational Derby treble after drawing barrier 10 for Saturday’s Group 1 South Australian Derby (2500m) at Morphettville.
The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained three-year-old is hunting a third Derby win this year after winning the Listed Tasmanian Derby at Hobart on February 5 and Group 1 Australian Derby at Randwick last month.
He opened as a $3.50 favourite on Tuesday with TAB fixed odds to complete the Derby hat-trick before easing to $3.80.
Regular jockey John Allen will ride Explosive Jack in his latest Group 1 attempt this weekend.
The star son of Jakkalberry will headline a two-pronged attack for Maher and Eustace with the stable also saddling up Let’s Karaka Deel (barrier 15) in the $500,000 event.
