An endorsement from one of the most successful jockeys in Cox Plate history has given Chris Waller confidence dual Group 1 winner Kolding is ready for the $5 million test at The Valley on Saturday.
Hall Of Fame jockey Hugh Bowman, who combined with Waller to win four consecutive Cox Plates with superstar mare Winx, gave Kolding his tick of approval after riding him in trackwork over the weekend.
Bowman was due to ride Sir Dragonet in the Cox Plate but lost the steer due to suspension with fellow Sydney jockey James McDonald set to make the trip to Melbourne to ride Kolding in the feature.

However, Bowman was aboard Kolding for a crucial track gallop at The Valley last Saturday and was impressed with what he felt as Waller prepares the son of Ocean Park in similar fashion to his former superstar mare.
“We will follow a similar path to what we did with Winx,” Waller said.
“He went there on Saturday and will be there on Tuesday.
“Hugh Bowman said he worked well, not quite the same as someone else did there, but still very good and he seemed to get around The Valley well.
“Hugh said he felt better than he did in the autumn so it was good to get that gauge from a jockey that rode him at Caulfield last preparation.
“He is going well and if he draws a gate he is a genuine chance.”

Kolding, whose sire Ocean Park won the 2012 Cox Plate, has returned to the sort of form that saw him capture a Group 1 Epsom Handicap and $7.5 million Golden Eagle as a four-year-old at this time last spring.
After an underwhelming autumn campaign that saw him miss the placings in all of his five starts, he has hardly put a foot wrong this preparation.
Kolding comes into the Cox Plate on the back of consecutive wins in the Group 1 George Main Stakes and Group 2 Hill Stakes in Sydney.
Kolding is set to be joined Humidor in the Cox Plate with Craig Williams to pilot the later on grand final day.
Both horses are rated $17 chances with TAB.com.au for the 2040m event.
