Mick Price is confident Oceanex will take her place in the Melbourne Cup despite a vet issue

Mick Price is full of confidence Oceanex will take her place in the Melbourne Cup despite his star staying mare having a vet issue and now needing to be re-inspected on Friday.

Price and RV vet Grace Forbes were both not satisfied with the mare’s action when she trotted at 7.30am but Price was happy when she trotted again three hours later.

Price said it was a minor foot issue but there was no abscess and a change of Oceanex’s shoes appeared to have done the trick.

“I am very confident we have fixed the problem and our expert farrier Vaughn Ellis is as well,” Price, who co-trains with Michael Kent Jr, said.

“At 7.30am this morning I wasn’t happy but at 10.30am she trotted up sound.

“I am confident we have resolved the issue and she will take her place in the Melbourne Cup.”

Oceanex, who qualified for the Melbourne Cup with her win in The Andrew Ramsden in May, is a $51 chance with TAB to win the great race on the first Tuesday in November.
